Jelly Bean Counting
Next post
There is something special about busting open an Easter egg to reveal what is hidden inside. When I set out a bunch of eggs on a random afternoon, Brixton didn’t know what to do with himself.
This invitation was waiting for him when he got off the bus last week. His teacher sent out an SOS the day before asking for jelly beans for graphing practice and I ran to the store to grab some. I knew having an extra bag on hand would come in handy, so I made sure to keep one at home.
Jelly beans in eggs, a grabber, and a muffin tin labeled 1-12. His goal was simple: bust open the eggs, count the jelly beans, put them in the correct space!
He asked me to reset this over and over and I happily obliged. Between each round, I gave him a few to snack on to curb the temptation. I also started mixing up the order of the numbers in the tin. This made him really have to stop and LOOK 👀 at each number to make sure he was putting them in the right place 😉
This simple set up was a huge hit, and even though Easter is over and it’s time for the eggs to be packed up, I’m thinking about keeping a handful out for activities just like this all throughout the year 🤔
